Student Heroics: 7th Grader Saves Choking Classmate on Bus

Warren, Michigan - May 12, 2023 - A 7th-grader at Lois E. Carter Middle School in Warren, Michigan, emerged as a hero after saving a classmate from choking on a bus ride on April 25th.

WEB Dillon Reeves, 13, was among the 65 students on board when the incident occurred. As the bus pulled away from the school, a fellow student began choking on an object. Without hesitation, Reeves rushed to their aid.

Using the Heimlich maneuver, Reeves performed several chest thrusts until the object was dislodged and the student could breathe again. The bus driver immediately pulled over, and paramedics were called to the scene. Thanks to Reeves' quick thinking and courage, the student escaped serious injury.

Reeves' bravery was recognized by school officials and local authorities. He received a standing ovation at a school assembly and was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Warren Police Department.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of students being prepared for emergencies and the courage and compassion young people can possess.
