A Successful High School and College Coach

Hugh Freeze, a seasoned American football coach, has been appointed as the head coach at Auburn University. The 53-year-old Mississippi native boasts an impressive track record, having served as a successful high school football coach at Briarcrest Christian School.

5-Time Region 8-AA Coach of the Year

During his tenure at Briarcrest Christian, Freeze earned numerous accolades, including 5-time Region 8-AA Coach of the Year honors and 4-time Associated Press High School Coach of the Year awards. His success there paved the way for him to take on the role of head coach at Liberty University in 2019.

Auburn's 31st Head Football Coach

On November 28, 2022, Hugh Freeze was officially named the 31st head football coach in Auburn University's 129-year football history. The announcement culminated an extensive coaching search led by new Tigers athletics director John Cohen.

Rebuilding His Image

Despite his accomplishments, Freeze is openly addressing past indiscretions that led to his resignation from the University of Mississippi in 2017. In an interview with ESPN, he acknowledged his past and expressed his commitment to rebuilding his image as a coach and mentor.
